I was recently sitting with a client talking about the support that they would need from me in the coming year. In our discussion of how to structure the agreement he nonchalantly said, “That way we can ‘Hey Jessica’ you whenever we need to.” I smiled when he said it. This particular client does “hey Jessica” me frequently for advice, to sit in on an executive team meeting, or to pop-in on a discussion that’s happening internally. Yet, they’re not the only ones. I have a lot of friends, colleagues, clients, and acquaintances that often reach out to “pick my brain” or seek advice on a certain topic. Often the advice or insight they seek are things that they feel like they can’t ask their boss or supervisor either.
Needless to say, the idea for “Ask Jess” was born. Every week, I’ll post a real question I’ve gotten from a client, friend, acquaintance, or stranger – and my recommendation or response to those questions. In the coming weeks, you’ll also be able to submit questions of your own, in hopes they’ll appear in my weekly column, Don’t Ask Your Boss: Ask Jess.
